About me

Welcome to my practice website. My name is Heather Velasquez (she/her) and I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas for over 15 years. I am also an LPC Supervisor (LPC-S) for LPC Associates working on upgrading to full LPC licensure.

Experience

My clinical experience includes working in a variety of settings such as nonprofit mental health and social services, The University of Texas Counseling and Mental Health Center and also private practice. The majority of my work is with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, difficult life transitions and chronic illness/chronic pain and substance use. I’m particularly passionate about helping women in all stages of life find balance, joy and fulfillment.

I have been a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers since 2007. For over 15 years, I have provided Motivational Interviewing coaching for counselors, social workers and other clinicians working on improving their Motivational Interviewing skills.

Approach and style

My work is rooted in collaboration, incorporating your experiences, wisdom, and values into our work. Along with Motivational Interviewing, I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, self-compassion and mindfulness based therapies amongst others. I am also trained in EMDR which is a wonderful, evidence-based therapy for reprocessing and releasing trauma, anxiety, depression and more.

My presence is calm, gentle and genuine. It’s important to me to provide a warm and peaceful environment for my clients to feel safe and supported.

LPC License, State of Texas, License #62522
